NHL Consensus Picks – Wild Vs. Flames
Minnesota Wild Vs. Calgary Flames Predictions
Two of the hottest teams in the NHL will go head-to-head in an attractive Western Conference matchup on Saturday Night.
Both the Minnesota Wild and the Calgary Flames picked the best time of the season to play its best.
Their meeting this weekend promises fireworks. The wildcard race is beyond exciting with a month to go in the regular season.
Six teams are in play for the last two spots to the postseason. Minnesota currently holds the eighth and final seed with 68 points after 64 games played. Colorado (68pts), Arizona (67 pts), Chicago (63), Vancouver (63) and Edmonton (61) are trying to apply pressure every time they jump on the ice.
The Wild has found quite the rhythm in the last two weeks.
Minnesota has won their last four games in a row, staying put in the postseason spots.
The rest of the teams are clearly waiting for a slip the Wild hasn’t allowed to happen.
Three of those four wins were on the road against the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, and Winnipeg Jets. At home, they took down the St. Louis Blues. If you had bet $100 on the Wild games on the road, you would be up $278 this season.
Calgary is no cupcake. They are perhaps the more significant challenge Minnesota has faced in the last two weeks.
The Flames have won seven games in a row, and they are in the top of the Pacific division. San Jose, who is a great team, is seven points away from Calgary.
That alone should tell you the excellent season the Flames are currently having.
The seven wins in a row are the largest streak Calgary has put together this season. Goalie David Rittich made 19 saves in the last outing against the NJ Devils improving to 22-5-5.
The Flames have allowed one goal in the previous four games.
Beyond their impressive defensive form, the team average 3.59 goals per game this year, which is the second-best average in the entire NHL.
Calgary has won all three games in the series this season and seven of the last ten in the series against Minnesota.
The Wild deserves props for their latest winning form, but they are about to face a challenge that might be too much to handle.
What’s the play? Calgary.
